Hamilton Watch & Co. was one of the few American companies that survived the fierce competition in the industry during the nineteenth century, one of the last to be based on a number of companies located in Lancaster.
By that time, Adams & Perry Watch Manufacturing Co. was the dominant company in Lancaster.
J.C. Adams was born in Preble, N.Y. The October 7, 1834, possibly the most experienced person in the area, roughly between 1861 and 1874, he founded several companies, or was part of that time as watch, John H. Atkins, / SC Spalding / G.B. & J.C. Adams / Hoard & Hoes / W.H. & C. Miller / S. Together with Moeley and P.S. Bartlett & Co. organizes Elgin Watch / Together with Paul Cornell, organizes The Cornell Watch Company / The Il Watch Company / in 1874, was created Adams & Perry Watch Manufacturing Co., To be secretary general of the company, resigning in 1875. Mr. Perry was designer watches.

On October 18, 1892 seventeen people organized by JW B. Bausman as president on November 11, 1892 is the record of incorporation in the State of Pennsylvania, being the Governador Robert E. Pattison, on December 14, 1892, who issued the patent doing the deed of incorporation in the book of the state to Hamilton Watch & Co.

Franklin, John Sener, John C. Hager, J. F. McCaskey, H. M. North, Martin Ringwalt, J. Frederick Sener, William Z. Sener, James Shand, Peter T. Watt and H. S. Williamson.
Taking advantage of the climate and the existing infrastructure of the various companies and their skilled personnel, most of the team and supplies were obtained by absorbing other companies, Aurora Watch Co.. which provided the machinery and its principal partner Henry J. Cain.
It begins in the summer 1892 production of a movement designed by Henry J. Cain, a founding member of the company, and undertakes its production in 1893 with the launch of the Broadway Limited, the “Watch of Railroad Accuracy” a line of pocket watches that cautivaría staff of the railways for its elegance and technical characteristics set by the railway company.
Before the end of the century, these clocks were widely known as “The Railroad Timekeeper of America.”
About 1880 people every village and in the United States was based on a pattern of different time, determined by sunlight. There were 50 different schedules in use, affecting several railway lines. Amid such confusion faulty timing caused serious train accidents, the urgent need for the railways to provide accurate clocks was clear, developed two solutions, a plan for standard time and four time zones, Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific, were established.
Until March 1894, the only place that watches were pocket watches, clocks mainly of the railway.
The Unique and Much, was produced on March 1, 1894.
In 1908, they began to make watches for ladies pendant, which were much smaller than pocket watches.
During the First World War, U.S. soldiers found the usefulness of the wristwatch, most small and comfortable, that the pocket watches. This trend caused a shift in production to watch U.S. wristwatches for both sexes, were a redesign of the pendant watches, with belts of fabric or ribbon.
The wristwatches for men were not well considered before 1920, Hamilton introduced the man to watch strap on November 11, 1922, taking not only to sell the watch, but also the idea of a wrist watch, his use in the hot summers when not wearing the life jackets and outdoor activities helped the adoption and popularity of the wristwatch.
At the end of the 20s, fired some watches as the Cushion, and Tonneau Square and its art deco designs in 1930.
Some purists argue that Hamilton watches, reached its highest delicacy, from the period from 1920 to 1950, as the best American clock, not everyone agrees, but undoubtedly the watches were manufactured in the United States, most expensive of its time.
Considering the year 1950, as the end of Hamilton, when the company began to replace the movements made in the United States, for those imported from Switzerland. It was shuffled several dates as to when production ceased in reality Hamilton, but most are agreed that it was 1969 when production ceased completely movements Americans, for them the story of Hamilton ended there.
Before the Second World War timers used by the navy, were imported, with the start of it, the navy needed to supply its fleet of such instruments, the stopwatch Hamilton was introduced to the navy in February 1942, with success.
