On April 16 1803, is born Charles Antoine LeCoultre in Le Sentier, Valle de Joux.
Descendant of Pierre LeCoultre, established in Le Sentier in 1559, from Lizy-sur-Ourcq, Paris, fleeing religious persecution in France. After a short time the family LeCoultre establishes an important role in the economic and political development of the region, in 1730 Abraham Joseph LeCoultre, blacksmith and farmer founded the forge LeCoultre.
Charles Antoine LeCoultre, son of Jacques Le Coultre David and Louise Catherine. His father was dedicated to the manufacture of mechanical instruments, there Antoine, is formed as a metallurgist and specializes in the design of tools and mechanical parts.
In 1833, at the age of 30 years, Antoine leaves his father and with his brother Ulysses founded in his hometown Le Sentier a workshop specializing in the development of mechanisms for clocks, hires four artisans initially, was at that workshop apply their talents in developing new designs and manufacturing methods in mechanical engineering, for the measurement of the time, a watchmaking workshop in which the making, finishing and assembly of components watchmakers are made by hand.
In 1844, Antoine LeCoultre invented his Millionomètre, the first instrument capable of measuring the micrometer, one millionth of a meter, this meant that the components could be produced with a precise accuracy, resulting in more accurate timers. The metric system was imposed as a base in the watch industry. THE LeCoultre motto was “We must base our experience in science.” Soon, LeCoultre managed to be the main supplier of movements, parts and tools to the Swiss watch industry.
LeCoultre & Co. in 1847. creates the first movement of pocket equipped with a system of rope and setting the time for the crown, this revolutionary new leaves outdated cargo through key.
In 1851, the first World Exhibition in London, Antoine LeCoultre get the gold medal with a stopwatch in gold equipped with the new system of rope and setting the time without a key.
In 1858 his son Elie LeCoultre (1842-1917) at the age of 15 years begins to take shape in the factory from his father, and later together with his brothers Paul and Benjamin, in 1877 named Antoine LeCoultre family association in LeCoultre & Cie.
Stressing on his wits Elie was the creator of and calibres numerous complications, transforming the manufacturing workshop of the family, getting to be the first article of manufacture in the Valle de Joux, being the first providers of complicated movements.

In 1987 creates a unique chronograph movement, the Caliber 630 mecca-quartz chronograph combines the complexity of mechanical and precision of quartz.
In 1989 creation of a new Jaeger-LeCoultre arouses the interest of the whole world: Major Alarm. this day with a perpetual moon phases, with a unique feature, a stunning bronze bell that does resonate a small hammer.
In 1991, Jaeger-LeCoultre at its 60th anniversary and in tribute to this exceptional longevity in the world of watchmaking, made a series limited to 500 copies of the legendary Reverso watch.
